NSFAS December Allowance 2025 : Students who are getting financial support from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) can finally relax a bit since the scheme has made an official announcement on the R5,200 allowance for December 2025. This news comes just before the holidays, giving students a clear idea of what they can expect and when the money will be in their accounts.
NSFAS Confirms December Allowance
In a recent update, it was announced that every student from university and TVET colleges who qualify will get the sum of R5,200 as a December allowance. This consists of both the living allowance and the personal care component, which NSFAS usually disperses at the start of December to facilitate students going home for the holidays.
This statement is made to accompany the mounting concern of the students about the delays caused by administrative reviews earlier in the year. However, NSFAS has guaranteed the beneficiaries that the payments for December will not be influenced and the timetable has already been drawn up.
When Will Payments Be Made?
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has assured that the allowance for December will be disbursed from the 2nd to the 6th of December 2025. The date when the payment will actually be visible in the student’s account may be different depending on the specific bank or payment partner that the student is using.
Most of the students should receive the amount in their accounts by the 7th of December at the latest. NSFAS also urged the beneficiaries to double-check that their bank verification is finished, as accounts that are not completely set up are the main cause of delays in payment.
Who Will Receive The R5,200 Allowance?
The allotted funds which are confirmed can be used for:
- University students whose education is financed by 2025 academic year
- Students at technical colleges who are taking trimester or semester classes
- Students whose academic results have been properly submitted by schools
- Those whose bank accounts have been verified
Incomplete documents, unverified accounts, or issues with student performance may lead to delays in processing until the student completely clears his/her status.
NSFAS Stressed That Students Should Check Their Accounts
NSFAS went ahead and said that all students who get financial aid should use the NSFAS portal or mobile app to know their status in terms of:
- Payment
- Bank verification updates
- Any additional requirements
- Communication from the school regarding submissions
Those who use third-party payment providers must make sure that their accounts are active, verified, and not marked for suspicious activity.

For a lot of students, the R5,200 allowance is a very necessary support throughout the holiday season. The transport, groceries, and personal expenses are usually higher in November and December, thus making this early payout especially significant.
