Good News For Seniors: SASSA Confirms 2025 Old Age Grant Increase — Check New Amounts

SASSA Old Age Grant Increase 2025 : Good news for South African seniors in 2025 as SASSA announces Old Age Grant hikes, revised eligibility conditions and the complete December payment schedule. Food prices, transport, and electricity costs are rising, but this increase still provides relief to many older citizens who depend on the grant every month.

SASSA Old Age Grant Amounts For 2025

SASSA has announced that from 1 March 2025 pensioners will get higher payments. The new amounts are:

  • R2,350 per month — seniors between the ages of 60–74.
  • R2,380 per month — seniors 75 years and above.

The hike might look little, but in reality, it covers more among the basic daily needs that usually come with very tight budgets like groceries, transport, and medical care.

The New Rules You Should Be Familiar With

To be eligible for the 2025 Old Age Grant, SASSA has stipulated that seniors have to accomplish the following requirements:

  • Aged 60 or more – You are considered eligible from the month following your 60th birthday.
  • South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee – Beneficiaries need to reside in South Africa.
  • Pass the SASSA Means Test – Your annual income must be less than R103,000 for a single person and R206,000 for a married couple.
  • Not receiving any other social grant – You are not allowed to receive two grants at the same time.

The rules are designed to ensure that the grant goes to the neediest seniors.

December 2025 SASSA Payment Date Confirmed

SASSA has also published the holiday schedule to assist seniors in organizing their activities beforehand.

The date for the payment of the Old Age Grant is 2 December 2025. Payments for the remaining months will be made on the first business day of each month, so the beneficiaries will always receive their funds early.

What Seniors Should Do Now

In order to prevent payment delays, seniors are recommended to:

  • Make sure their banking details are correct in the SASSA system.
  • Always have their ID and proof of residence updated.
  • Be on the lookout for updates from the official SASSA website and through SMS alerts.
