The South African government has discussed an increase in social grants for 2025, a new sign of hope for millions of citizens struggling to make ends meet and constantly dependent on monthly support.

Who is eligible to claim updates in the following grants starting 2025?
Grant requirements are still in line with the existing SASSA requirements. They include an evaluation of income, age, and disability, following the qualifying eligibility guidelines for each.
Old Age Grant applicants must be at least 60. In addition to providing medical documentation of being disabled, an applicant must meet the required age. For child-related grants, parents or caregivers should be required to provide proof of the applicant being under their care and also satisfy age and residency requirements. All grant applicants must be legal citizens, refugees or permanent residents of South Africa.
How to Apply for the 2025 Social Grants
Any applicant can visit their nearest SASSA office to apply for any grant, or they may apply from the official online application portal. However, applicants need to provide an ID, an address, and any other supporting documents serialized as per the grant. Alphanumerical values are given to applicants who are already benefiting from grants. In such a case, they are doing their applications virtually.
